Silymarin (Milk Thistle), Not Just For The Liver

The active component of Milk Thistle, called Silymarin, has proven liver-protective effects and gallbladder support properties, but it has also been studied for Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, osteoporosis, diabetes, burns, and ulcerative colitisOne study reflects it's potential alongside chemotherapy for breast cancer and another study shows potential benefit for liver cancer.  The wonderful thing about herbs is that they often have multiple beneficial effects, and in the case of Silymarin some of that may be due to it's antioxidant properties, and the fact that it supports bile production and flow.  Talk with a healthcare professional before taking herbs and be aware that there is quite a bit of concern about quality control when it comes to herbs such as milk thistle.
