Cardiovascular Health

A series of nutritional products has been formulated by Dr. Mark Houston, Associated Clinical Professor of Medicine at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, to address the various causal factors related to cardiovascular disease.  Dr. Houston is Board Certified in Hypertensive Medicine and has authored several books including "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Hypertension" and "What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Heart Disease".  His latest formulation is a product that addresses blood pressure and artery health, and contains a relatively short list of vitamins and antioxidants, but took several clinical trials to come to fruition.  He found that the amounts of the vitamins and minerals had a profoundly synergistic effect only at very specific doses.  The formula includes vitamin C, D, magnesium, vitamin B6, biotin, taurine, and grapeseed extract.  Dr. Houston points out that besides genetic factors heart disease is often related to inflammation (as measured by markers like CRP), oxidative stress (often due to stress, toxins, etc.), glucose dysregulation, and of course lifestyle factors related to those including diet and stress.  He also points out that there are markers other than cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL, and LDL that may be better indicators of cardiovascular risk, and those include small LDL, Lipoprotein (a), and CRP, among others.  For more information about Dr. Houston's work, you can visit his website at
