Heavy Metals In Food

My passion is educating people about underlying causes of health issues.  One particular area of interest for me is long-term, low-level exposure to heavy metals such as lead, cadmium, arsenic, aluminum, and mercury.  I was tickled to see a recent special on Doctor Oz featuring Mike Adams discussing the issues of heavy metals in foods and also supplements.  I would encourage you to watch the video at this link.  One of the key points made was the concern of heavy metals in rice, including rice protein supplements.  They do point out that rice products produced in the US (especially California) are much less of a concern.  Regardless, I would make two points:  1)Be aware that we are all exposed to heavy metals on a daily basis and from a variety of sources, including the food we eat.  2)Since rice protein may be of particular concern, consider an alternative such as gelatin powder (of course for those of you who are not vegetarian or vegan).  The analysis which reflects no heavy metal issues in Great Lakes Gelatin can be found here.
