Eczema and Prenatal Cadmium Exposure

Infants that were exposed to the heavy metal, cadmium, in utero, were found to be more likely to have atopic dermatitis, a form of eczema.  They measured the cadmium in umbilical cord blood at birth, and then looked for whether eczema was present at 6 months of age.  While there is often a focus on food components as triggers of eczema, a true underlying cause may be cadmium in some cases.  You can view the study correlating the two here:
